What is 'Spyware'? (Taken from - click for full article)

Spyware is computer software that collects personal information about a user of a computer without their informed consent . Coined in 1995, but not widely used until after 2000, the term is often used interchangeably with adware and malware . Spyware is itself a form of malware, which is software designed to infiltrate and intentionally or otherwise damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent.

How does it affect me?

Do you or your family members surf the web and get hit by annoying popups? Not just 1 or 2 - more like continuously the same product with the same title and the same page over and over again? Those types of annoyances are only the beginning.

Is your top of the line computer slow? One of the possible reasons is that the spyware on your computer is feeding back data to the spyware servers so they know your/your family member's habits, what you buy, what you type - basically, they are 'spying' on you.

Although they like to call their products, 'ADWARE' - did you really consent to have your privacy invaded?
Did you know they would slowdown your surfing experience?
Did you know they would redirect your pages?
Did you authorize them to change your homepage?
Did you authorize them to change where YOU want to go?
Do you know where your kids are being redirected?

What happens if I remove it?

The key is to remove and protect yourself.
Simply removing it and then going on P2P networks, torrent sites, downloading software blindly puts you back in the same position.

If you remove it and become cautious on whatever you install from now on and WARN your kids not to install anything without your consent. Taking the proper steps to keep your computer clean and safe will prevent having to erase your entire hard drive and reinstalling your operating system - otherwise know as 'FORMAT' your computer in order to be able to use it again.

Another important thing for you to know - if you remove the spyware, the original program it got bundled in or the movie that downloaded it for you - whatever the product that let this 'spyware' in, will most likely no longer work.

What happens if I don't remove it?

If you don't remove it, expect everything you surf from now on to be 'decided' by someone else. That's right - if you're looking for 'widgets' they send you to the 'widget' merchant of their choice. If you're looking for a product to buy, a membership to join - it's not the best product for YOU that will be shown, but the best one for them (the one who's willing to pay the highest price for your click)

If your not disturbed by the popups and your what ads your kids may be seeing when you're not next to them, then don't remove it.

You will continue to be able to use the software that brought it in - most likely some free software that you'll hardly find use for in the future.
